The Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes the practices implemented on the Society3 Platform (or the “platform”) including applications such as Society3 FundersMart, Society3 Buzz and other applications that maybe added by Society3 (“Society3”, the “Company”, “us” or “we”).  Through your use of the Platform, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.  If you do not agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy, please cease use of the Society3 Platform immediately.  The terms of this policy are subject to all applicable law.

Collection of Data
New users, whether they be individuals or representatives of corporations, to the Platform are asked to register with Society3, which registration requests both personally identifying information and non-identifying information.  This data is accessible only through a confidential password and screen name that you select.  From the registration, we store data including your user name, email address and IP Addresses. We also may collect your browser type, operating system type, domain name, access times and referring website address.  Society3 is committed to maintaining the confidentiality of the personal identifying information that the Company solicits.

We may also collect and store data from specific requests from you, for things such as signing up for an email newsletter (which you may opt out of) or other online information service we may offer, answering a survey, or contacting us.  Surveys are conducted strictly for internal profiling purposes and only keep track of anonymous demographic data (e.g., your age, usage of the Society3 website, favorite features).  Our website contains links through which an online user can email us. We collect personal information contained in the email for the purpose of responding to a user’s questions and/or comments.

Additionally, we collect data from a variety of activities and transactions once you begin using the Platform, mainly to develop your social capital value report.  We also store all connections you create with other users, networks you develop and activities you perform on those networks. Any improper collection or misuse of information provided on Society3 applications is considered a violation of Society3 terms of services and should be brought to our attention.

You are in control of the visibility of your personal contact information (email, phone numbers, IM etc.).  You have the right to delete all data you entered into the system yourself.  However, given that the main purpose of Society3 applications is to share information, you agree that the process of information you shared cannot be completely revoked. As such you agree that we never delete your data or account in the interest of users who are connected with you. Sharing data is considered not revocable except through blocking a user. That user may however still maintain personal notes relating to the connection that are stored in records related to that connection.  As personal connections may be shared by a person with their employer for the purpose of building investor lists or portfolio management, such contacts will become part of the company’s data.

Use of Cookies or Other Methods to Collect Information
We may collect some information about you by using data collection technology, and it may not be readily apparent to you when data is being collected.  For instance, when you come to our website, your IP address is collected so that we know where to send information you are requesting.  An IP address is a number that is used by computers on the network to identify your computer every time you log on to the Internet.  A “cookie” is a small file or record-keeping device that websites often store on a user’s computer. (You can disable cookies or set your browser to alert you when cookies are being sent to your computer.)  This information may be used to improve the quality of our service and website. Society3 utilizes cookies, such that use of Society3 products requires that the user enables cookies in her browser.  We do not store email addresses or passwords in cookies.  However, we may combine this information with personally identifiable information to identify a user in order to enforce compliance with our Terms of Use or to protect our service, website or other users of Society3’s website.

No matter what method we use to collect information and no matter how we use that information, we will only collect the information deemed reasonably necessary to fulfill your online requests and our legitimate business objectives.

Use of Gathered Data
Society3 may use your name and logo to identify you as a user of Society3 on the Society3 website and in promotional and corporate materials.   Further, Society3 may issue a press release identifying you as a user and explaining your intended use of Society3 and the benefits you expect to receive.

From time to time, we may post on our website job openings at Society3 and provide an email address to which interested applicants can submit their resume.  Although we can assure you that any personal information contained in a resume will be used solely for its intended purpose (i.e., to evaluate the applicant’s qualifications), such information is not subject to this privacy policy.

Additionally, Society3 uses the data it collects to perform background checks on its participants in order to ensure that the highest quality professionals participate on Society3’s platform.

Use of Aggregate Data
Society3 reserves the right to generate and store aggregations of data from large pools of users (also known as “meta data”).  Such meta data does not contain personally identifiable information, such as name, email address or IP address.  Society3 uses this aggregate data to generate useful, comparative analytics and thereby improve Company services. We may publish the analytics publicly, and share them with the users of Company services.  Further, Society3 reserves the right to target users using this aggregate data for purposes of advertisement within the Company platform.

An example of meta data that Society3 generates is Social Graphs. Social Graphs are relationship maps describing the connection points between entities (organizations or individuals) and their respective activities between such relationships. Activities between connections may be tracked and aggregated to develop reports such as the Social Capital Value. Society3 invented a series of rules, algorithms and processes to calculate values and provide corresponding reports. Those rules, processes and algorithms as well as the resulting data are owned by Society3. Each user has the right to use and communicate their own results in any way they wish. However users are prohibited from exporting or otherwise distributing the underlying data that may contain references to other user (companies or individuals). By using Company services, you agree to the collection, usage and storing of meta data.

We will not sell or otherwise distribute any of your personal information, including email address or age, to any third party without your specific and individual approval.  Society3 may share your personally identifiable data as set forth below.

Society3 reserves the right to share your personally identifiable information with our parent or affiliated companies.  Further, Society3 may sell, transfer or otherwise disclose user information, including personally identifiable information, in connection with a corporate merger, consolidation, the sale of substantially all assets, or other fundamental corporate change. Society3 is committed to protect its user’s privacy.  We use secure login encryption and we encrypt all passwords stored on Society3.  No Society3 employee will ever ask a user for their password, nor is any Society3 employee capable of decrypting or retrieving passwords for you.  If a password gets lost you will need to request a new password. We will not use your personal email address in any way, other than sending you a lost password. We also do not provide your personal email address to any of your connections, unless you decide to do so.  All communication is performed using your business email address.
